A ceremony is set to take place in Liverpool to honour 100 unsung heroes and heroines of their communities.
The event is the first of its kind and the city council is asking for nominations of volunteers whose work makes a "real difference to people's lives".
A panel of independent judges will select the 100 most outstanding volunteers for the ceremony, which will be held in the town hall in November.
The judges want a variety of people nominated, from hospital workers to those who run sports teams or raise money for charity.
'Deserved recognition'
City council leader Mike Storey said the event will be a "fantastic opportunity" for the city to show its appreciation of what these people do.
"We want to hear about the people who organise day trips for disadvantaged individuals, the person who freely gives up spare time to coach a football team or the neighbour who shops for those who can't get out themselves," he said.
"Liverpool is full of local heroes and heroines who haven't received the recognition they deserve.
"We want to thank these people for all the work they do and make this an annual event."
To be eligible for an award the volunteers nominated have to work within city boundaries and with people who live in Liverpool.
Nominations need to be received by Friday 17 October, and the awards ceremony takes place on 17 November.
