Motley Crue singer on assault charge

Neil's alleged assault happened in July

Motley Crue singer Vince Neil has been charged with misdemeanour battery after an alleged assault on a prostitute in the US last month.

Mr Neil, 42, allegedly grabbed prostitute Andrea Terry by the throat and threw her against the wall during the attack, at the Moonlite Bunny Ranch, near Carson City, Nevada, on 10 July, prosecutors have said.

If convicted, the singer could face six months in prison and a fine of up to $1,000 (£620).

Mr Neil is due to appear at the Dayton Justice Court, but no date has been set. No comment has yet been made by the singer's lawyer.

Brothel owner Dennis Hof said the alleged assault happened after Mr Neil said he did not want to have sex with Ms Terry, it was reported.

Mr Neil visited the brothel - legal in the state of Nevada - after a 9 July Motley Crue concert also featuring 80s metal bands Poison and Skid Row.

Community service

In April, Mr Neil entered a no contest plea to misdemeanour battery charges after an assault involving record producer Michael Shuman outside a Hollywood nightclub last year.

He was ordered to serve 100 hours of community service and to pay compensation.

Motley Crue, one of the biggest US metal bands of the 1980s, have recently reformed for concert tours in the States.

The band's line-up also includes drummer Tommy Lee, the former husband of Baywatch star Pamela Anderson.
