Two dead after crash
Two people have died after a head-on road collision in Greater Manchester.

Emergency crews were alerted after the accident at about 2245 BST on Thursday in Ashton-under-Lyne.

A motorcyclist was confirmed dead at the scene of the crash on Manchester Road after his Kawasaki machine was in collision with a Hyundai car, whose driver died later in hospital.

A passenger on the motorbike suffered two broken legs and other injuries during the accident, at the junction with Moss Way, but his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

Internal injuries

The road was closed for six hours as the wreckage was cleared and the investigation in to the cause of the accident began.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 37-year-old woman, suffered internal injuries during the accident, from which she later died after being taken to Tameside General Hospital.

The motorcyclist, a 17-year-old man from Audenshaw, died at the scene after suffering multiple injuries.

Two passengers in the Hyundai were detained overnight at Tameside hospital after suffering minor injuries.

Drivers appeal

The motorbike passenger, also 17 and from Audenshaw, was also being treated at the hospital on Friday.

Greater Manchester Police has appealed for witnesses to the accident to come forward.

Officers particularly want to speak to the drivers of a red Transit van and a black BMW, who were in the area at the time and could have witnessed the crash.

Anyone with information should contact Tameside Traffic Unit.
