Road dubbed most dangerous in UK

The speed limit on part of the route was lowered two years ago

A road through the Derbyshire's Peak District has been named as the most dangerous in Britain in an AA study.

It says the A537 Cat and Fiddle is the most persistently high risk route in the country.

The road which runs from Buxton to Macclesfield, is notorious for the number of accidents which happened over the past few years.

It is a popular stretch with motorcyclists and the speed limit on part of it was lowered from 60mph to 50mph two years ago.

Local campaigners hoped that would make the route safer.

The AA based its research on the number of fatal and serious accidents per mile driven.

It says too many people are dying unnecessarily on Britain's roads.
