Takings at the book fair were more than 35% up on last year

Guernsey's National Trust is celebrating record takings at its book fair.
The event, combined with the book sale at the Vaier Marchi, raised almost £6,500 for the charity.
The theft of banners by vandals earlier in the week failed to dampen spirits at the fair.
In fact, takings were up more than 35% on last year.
Ossie and Rose Naftel, who ran the fair, were delighted with the result.
Fine weather
Rose Naftel said she thought numbers would be down because of the fine weather, but that proved not to be the case.
Books on the Channel Islands sold out completely, and many of the sales were in sections on history, politics, biographies and religion.
The books were all donated to the Trust by islanders emigrating or people clearing their houses or libraries.
Trust press officer Peter Voute said that, wherever the books had come from, they had produced a welcome source of revenue for the charity.
