Northamptonshire Police hope a witness can be found to an assault that left a man with a head injury and no memory of the attack.
The man was walking along Wellingborough Road near Abington Square in Northampton on Friday at about1840 BST when he was attacked from behind.
He was later taken to hospital for treatment for a head injury, and cannot tell police what happened or describe his assailant.
He was not robbed, and it was not determined what the attacker's motive might have been.
A police spokesman said they hoped someone had witnessed the attack and would contact them with information.
He described the victim as a white male in his mid-30's with close-cropped dark hair and two eyebrow piercings.
He was wearing a navy-blue jumper and sunglasses.
