Charity seeks volunteers

About 80 people currently work for the Samaritans in the island

The Jersey branch of the Samaritans is looking for more volunteers.

People aged over 18 are being invited to find out more at a meeting on Thursday evening.

The organisation is looking for people who can volunteer for a minimum of 14 hours a month.

Six-week course

There are currently about 80 people working for the Samaritans in the island but ideally it would like to recruit an extra 20 volunteers.

All volunteers do a six-week preparation course before having to deal with the public on the phone as well as face-to-face and by e-mail.

Anyone considering joining should go along to the Samaritans' centre in Hue Street between 1930 BST and 2130 BST.
