A 28-year-old prisoner has appeared in court charged with murdering a fellow inmate at Manchester Prison.
Clement Peter McNally, originally from Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, appeared before the city's magistrates on Thursday.
Police were called to the prison, formerly known as Strangeways, at 1317 BST on Monday following reports a prisoner had been assaulted by another inmate.
Anthony Hesketh, 37, was taken to North Manchester General Hospital where he died.
A post-mortem examination revealed he had been asphyxiated.
McNally was remanded in custody to appear at Manchester Crown Court on 26 September.
Hesketh, who had two sisters and three brothers, was originally from Little Hulton, Salford.
