Woman rescued from cliff ledge
Beachy Head
The woman was trapped on the ledge for about an hour
A woman has been rescued from a rock ledge 100 feet down the cliffs at Beachy Head in East Sussex.

The woman broke both her wrists and was also thought to have suffered spinal injuries.

She was trapped on the ledge for more than an hour while a specialist coastguard team abseiled down the cliffs to rescue her.

Onlookers said they had heard the woman scream as she appeared to slip over the 500 foot high cliff edge on Saturday afternoon.

She then desperately tried to grab hold of rocks as she fell before coming to rest on the ledge.

After the cliff rescue team reached the woman, a 25-year-old from Eastbourne, she was winched back up the cliffs and taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital.

She was taken to hospital with both wrists broken, possible spinal injuries and cuts.
