A 42-year-old female teacher has been summonsed to appear before magistrates in connection with an alleged religiously aggravated assault.
It follows an incident at Bretton Woods Community School in Peterborough in March this year.
It is thought the summons relates to an incident in which a female pupil was asked to remove a headscarf because it was not school uniform.
A Cambridgeshire Police spokeswoman confirmed the teacher would be appearing before Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Friday.
'Allegations against a teacher'
A joint statement has been issued from Peterborough City Council on behalf of the Local Education Authority and the school.
The statement said: "Peterborough City Council is aware that an allegation has been made against a teacher at Bretton Woods Community School.
"The required procedures as set out by the area child protection committee have been followed in responding to this allegation.
"It would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this stage."
