Police are appealing for information on the incident
A man is in hospital with serious head injuries after a late night street attack.

Police say a large number of people were involved in the incident in South Wigston in which another man was also hurt.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with assault in connection with an earlier part of the incident involving a woman.

Police say several other people may well have seen some or all of what happened.

Trouble broke out at around 2330 BST on Thursday night two men left the Marquis of Queensbury pub on Blaby Road.

They were immediately assaulted in the street, being hit repeatedly around the head and body, one of the attackers had a weapon which police believe was a "blunt instrument".

One man was found unconscious at the scene and was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary.

The other man was taken to hospital and later discharged.
