Taiwan has again failed in its bid to win recognition by the United Nations.
A request to put the issue on the agenda for the General Assembly's annual session, due to open on Tuesday, has been rejected.
Taiwan, which lost its seat at the United Nations to Communist China in 1971, has tried for several years to put the issue on the UN agenda.
Beijing considers Taiwan as a breakaway province.
China's ambassador to the UN said both the mainland and Taiwan are part of the one and same China.
