Murder hunt intensifies
Thomas Loughery
Thomas Loughrey died from his injuries
Police investigating the murder of a teenager have insisted they are "closing in" on his killer.

The detective leading the probe into 17-year-old Thomas Loughery's death said "significant progress" had been made thanks to CCTV footage.

The teenager was seriously injured in Shawbridge Street in the Pollokshaws area of Glasgow, on Sunday, 27 July.

He was taken to the city's Victoria Infirmary but died from his injuries.

A massive hunt was launched for his killer and Detective Inspector Willie Johnston said he believed images from 24 cameras in the area were bringing them closer to a major breakthrough.

He said: "The public can be assured that the investment in retrievable CCTV systems as part of community planning is reaping benefits for this investigation.

"We are making significant progress and I am confident that the net we have cast widely is now closing in."

Mr Loughery was wearing a Celtic top when he was attacked and police have not ruled out a sectarian motive.
