A 30-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with the death of an 11-year-old girl in a road accident in Antrim.

Denise Givens was injured when the bicycle she was riding on the Seven Mile Straight near Antrim town, was in collision with a car at about 1920 BST on Wednesday.

She died from her injuries in hospital on Thursday.

Gareth Collins, from Arran Street in Antrim, was charged at Ballymena Magistrates' Court on Saturday with causing death by dangerous driving.

He was also charged with speeding, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

A police sergeant told the court he believed he could connect the defendant with the charges.

The accused was remanded in custody to appear at Antrim Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
