Flat death mother had multiple injuries
The flats in Maidstone
Police had visited the flat earlier on Thursday evening
A woman found dead at the bottom of a block of flats died from multiple injuries, a post mortem examination has revealed.

Her three-year-old daughter remained in a stable condition in hospital in London on Sunday.

The woman is believed to have jumped from the flats at Hawley Court in London Road, Maidstone, in the early hours of Friday.

The girl was found injured with her but it is not clear whether she also jumped, or fell accidentally, or was being held by her mother when she apparently jumped.

Police said the girl, who suffered broken bones, was in a stable condition at Guy's Hospital in London, but had been sedated.

Police Complaints Authority

The names of the woman and girl have not been released because not all their relatives have been informed and Kent Police said they were unlikely to be identified over the weekend.

Kent Police's handling of the incident is being examined by the Police Complaints Authority (PCA), after officers visited the flat earlier in the evening after calls from worried neighbours, but left content that neither the woman nor her daughter were at risk.

The force referred the case to the PCA voluntarily.

The woman and her daughter were found on the ground outside the flats by ambulance crews after a second call from neighbours to the emergency services.

Police decided not to send anyone to the scene at the time of the second call, by which time it is believed the woman was already dead.

The girl was taken to hospital in Maidstone but later transferred to Guy's Hospital where she was operated on.

Chief Superintendent Chris Eyre told the BBC Kent Police had referred the incident to the PCA so it could rule on whether the force had handled the incident properly.
