Manchester Prison
Police were called to Manchester Prison on Monday
A 28-year-old prisoner has been charged with murdering a fellow inmate at Manchester Prison.

Clement Peter McNally, originally from Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, is due to appear before the city's magistrates on Thursday.

Police were called to the prison, formerly known as Strangeways, at 1317 BST on Monday following reports that a prisoner had been assaulted by another inmate.

Anthony James Hesketh, 37, was taken to North Manchester General Hospital where he died.

A post-mortem examination revealed that he had been asphyxiated.

Mr Hesketh, who had two sisters and three brothers, was originally from Little Hulton, Salford.
