Hutton Inquiry
BBC reporter, Andrew Gilligan, and the BBC's Director of News, Richard Sambrook, have been cross-examined at the Hutton Inquiry. Mr Gilligan admitted he did make some mistakes in his reports of a conversation with the Government scientist, Dr David Kelly, but stood by the majority of his account of what Dr Kelly told him. Mr Sambrook conceded that the BBC would have to learn some lessons from the row, which led to the apparent suicide of Dr Kelly. We reported in detail on today's evidence.
Postal strike
The unions want eight percent up front, the Post Office says they're practically broke already and could not afford to pay it. A national postal strike now looks likely - could it destroy the company?
Robert Lenkiewicz
And supporters of the controversial artist, Robert Lenkiewicz, who died last year, are auctioning some of his pictures in an attempt to raise money to set up a museum dedicated to his art. He became notorious when he embalmed a tramp's body years ago, but was also a prolific figurative painter. The campaigners say his work deserves to be taken more seriously; we assessed that claim.
More information about Robert Lenkiewicz is available from the Lenkiewicz Foundation - 01752 668266. Sotheby's sale of works by Robert Lenkiewicz is at Olympia, London from 2pm, 18 September 2003 (telephone number: 0207 293 6491).
