MP fractures ankle in Commons fall
Jean Corston
Ms Corston was the first woman to be appointed chair of the PLP
Jean Corston, the Labour MP for Bristol East, is recovering at home after she was injured in a fall in the House of Commons.

An ambulance was called for Ms Corston after she fell and injured her leg in the division lobby on Tuesday evening.

A statement from Ms Corston's office said she was taken to St Thomas's Hospital, London, for treatment to a minor fracture to her right ankle and severe spraining to both ankles.

It said: "She is recovering at home, but will be unable to attend engagements for at least a week, and her staff are rescheduling constituency and Parliamentary appointments."

The accident happened when Ms Corston missed her footing whilst talking to a colleague on some stairs leading from the House of Commons Chamber.

Two years ago Ms Corston, 61, a former barrister, became the first woman to be appointed chair of the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP).
