A 17-year-old youth has appeared in court charged with rape, murder and arson after a 93-year-old woman's body was found in the remains of a burnt-out house.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of the rape and murder of Marjorie Davies.
Gloucester magistrates remanded him in custody for one week, to appear before the city's crown court on 24 September.
The charges follow a fire at a house in Upleadon, near Newent, Gloucestershire, in the early hours of Wednesday 3 September.
The body of an elderly woman found in the ruins of the house has not been formally identified, pending the results of DNA tests.
