Curtain falls at picture house
A cinema that opened after youngsters campaigned for somewhere to watch films in their Lancashire town, has closed down less than a year after it opened.

The Premiere Cinema in Accrington shut on Tuesday after its parent company, GSX Leisure, went into liquidation.

The four-screen cinema, on Hyndburn Road, was the first picture house in the town for 12 years.

Hyndburn Council said it hoped a new operator could be found quickly, so the facility could be re-opened.

700 signatures

The £3m cinema closed its doors on Tuesday after GSX got into financial difficulties.

It opened in October 2002 after a successful campaign by local teenager Emma Allardice.

She presented the Mayor with over 700 signatures asking for young people in the town to be provided with a cinema.

It is not clear how the company has got into financial trouble.
