More cabs for club crowds
More taxi ranks are being introduced into Mansfield to reduce problems for town centre revellers.

It is hoped the centre will be safer if club goers can leave the area faster and more easily.

At present the main taxi rank at the bus station is half a mile from the town centre.

This often means crowds of pub and club customers walking through the streets at the same time.

Quick journeys

But from October new Hackney carriage stands will open in Leeming Street and Clumber Street from 6pm to 6am.

Mansfield District Council hopes it will make the centre more attractive to visitors and reduce the potential for trouble.

Councillor Andre Camilleri, the council's chairman of licensing, said: "The council's policy is to make Mansfield a safer place by getting pub and club-goers home as quickly as possible after a good night out."
