Man shot in the head

A man was due to undergo surgery on Friday after being shot in the head.

It is believed the 21-year-old was shot with an airgun, in Wigan on Thursday.

He was walking along a canal towpath, alongside Orrell Street, when he felt a pain in the left side of his head.

The man went to a nearby shop and called an ambulance before he was taken to hospital.

On Friday Greater Manchester Police said the man's injuries are not life-threatening.
