A school in Merseyside will be closed for the rest of the week after a fire broke out.
An inquiry was underway on Wednesday after the incident at Rock Ferry High School, in Wirral, which broke out on Tuesday.
Fire crews were called at about 1730 BST and at one point 15 appliances were being used to bring it under control.
It is understood the fire broke out close to a chemistry lab and was concentrated in a two storey building, which has been extensively damaged.
Roof destroyed
On Wednesday one of the crews was still damping down at the scene.
A spokeswoman for Wirral Borough Council confirmed that the school will remain closed until Monday.
"All the school pupils have received a letter about what has happened," she said.
An investigation is underway in to how the fire began, which severely damaged one of the school's main buildings.
A Merseyside Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: "The roof of the building was lost in the fire and the first and ground floors were severely damaged in the fire."
