Body found in blazing car
Burnt car
Fire crews discovered the body inside the car
The badly burned body of a man has been found in a car which was spotted on fire on a coastal road in North Yorkshire.

Firefighters were called to the fire on the A165 Scarborough to Bridlington Road at 0400 BST on Wednesday.

Emergency crews arriving at the scene at Reighton, close to the border of East Yorkshire, found the vehicle well alight.

When they had extinguished the fire they realised there was a body inside.

Detectives investigating the circumstances are now trying to identify the dead man.

Acting Inspector Chris Charlton told BBC Look North: "As with any fire it destroys evidence, it disfigures, it causes damage.

"So the identity of the vehicle and identity of the deceased are almost obliterated and it makes it extremely difficult for us."
