Extra cash for schools
Schools in East Yorkshire have been given extra cash to help with repairs and building work.

Almost £10m will be available during the next two financial years.

East Riding Council has selected 24 primary and secondary schools which will benefit.

It has also set aside £600,000 for use in emergencies.

One of the schools where the money will be spent is Beverley High School which will get a sports hall at a cost of £1.3m.

Principal education officer Paul Collins said the government money not only reflects the poor quality and unsuitable nature of many of the East Riding's school buildings but also the hard work of the council in trying to put things right.

"This is another step along the long path of making our schools' accommodation and facilities fit for delivering education in the 21st Century," he added.
