Prisoner hunt widened
Prison gate
There have been four other escapes this year
Police in Jersey say a prisoner who escaped in the island on Sunday may be in France.

Since he ran away from his escorting officer, there has been no trace of 24-year-old Darren McCormack, except a tip-off he may have made for the continent.

Jersey Police are now working with French Police and the International Police organisation, Interpol to find him.

He was on an escorted home visit when he ran away.

Darren McCormack's description
Aged 24
5 ft 11 in (1.78 metres) tall
Short dark brown hair
Scottish accent
Last seen wearing Burberry jacket and black jeans

He was due to get married at the end of the month and was allowed out to make the final arrangements for his wedding.

Jersey police say they are having to divert officers from other work to try and catch him.

Deputy Bob Hill has criticised the release system at the prison, claiming it is too lenient.

He said this year's escapes have placed an unnecessary strain on police time.
