An 18-month-old girl died on Thursday after a fire at her home.
The child's mother and three other children escaped unhurt from the fire at the family's flat in South Ockendon, Essex.
An Essex Police spokeswoman said the fire broke out at about 0730 BST.
The cause was still being investigated.
She said a woman in her 30s was in the flat with her 18-month-old
daughter, 10-year-old daughter, three-year-old son and a teenage girl relative.
The dead child's father was not at home when the fire broke out, the
spokeswoman added.
None of the family has been named by police.
