Four men sent for rape trial

The accused men will stand trial in Pretoria
Four South Africans accused of raping a Welsh woman during a 14-hour kidnap ordeal and murdering a man who went to her aid have been told to stand trial.

They are accused of abducting Julie Stevens, from Newport, south Wales, and her South African friend.

The offences are alleged to have happened on the Long Tom Pass, near the Kruger National Park, in November.

Ms Stevens and her 25-year-old South African travel companion Tinus Opperman were allegedly hijacked by Sipho Mbokane, Michael Dube, Eric Msibi and Willy Ngwenya.

They are accused of driving the couple around for 14 hours and raping Miss Stevens at least twice.

The couple escaped after the car overturned.

Mozambican Domingo Chambal was shot dead when he stopped to help at the accident scene.

The four are to stand trial in Pretoria High Court on 1 September.
