Prisoner found on cell floor dies

The Prison Service has launched an investigation into the death
A prisoner died after he was found on the floor of his cell, it has emerged.

It is believed that Duncan Roland Barrett, 24, who is from the Surrey area, hanged himself.

He was found at 0555 BST on Wednesday by prisoner officers at HMP Wymott, in Preston, Lancashire.

He was pronounced dead at 0825 BST.

A Home Office spokesman said: "He was found on the floor with a ligature round his neck."

Barrett was serving a six-year jail term for rape after being sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court.

His next of kin, the police and the coroner were informed and the Prison Service has launched its own investigation.
