An off-duty policeman came to the aid of a 19-year-old shop assistant after she was threatened at knifepoint.
The cashier was held-up at the Bargain Booze store in Mold when a man came in and raided the till.
A shopper who witnessed the attack attempted to grab the knifeman over the counter but failed.
Pc Dave Schofield, of North Wales Police, heard the shop manager's cries for help and joined in the chase.
"This was a frightening incident for the cashier as she has been threatened with a knife," said Detective Constable Steve Griffiths.
Not hurt
The incident happened at about 1109BST on Sunday.
Police say there were a lot of people in the High Street area of Mold when the crime took place and they are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The robber, who made off with £93, got away in a car which was waiting for him in the Milford Street area of Mold.
The assistant was not hurt but she was left upset by the incident.
