Pair attack woman with baseball bat

A 25-year-old woman has suffered serious head injuries after a man and woman attacked her with a baseball bat and metal pipe in an attempt to steal her handbag.

The attackers hit the victim as she walked in Onslow Road, Southampton, on Friday between 2210 and 2220 BST.

They then fled empty-handed in a vehicle parked nearby, leaving the woman lying on the pavement.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the attack but have since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Detectives from Hampshire Constabulary are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
