Residents approve bridge
Footbridge
The bridge is central to the town centre's redevelopment
People in Coalville have given their support to proposals for a new foot and cycle bridge costing more than £500,000.

The new bridge is being seen as the centrepiece of a regeneration scheme for the town centre.

The new bridge will replace an old stepped footbridge that crosses over the railway track to link London Road and Bridge Street.

Work is expected to start in the Autumn.

Leicestershire County Council claim the old bridge makes access to the town centre difficult for cyclists, elderly people and people with disabilities.

It is hoped the scheme will provide better access to schools and shops and improve safety.

The proposal also includes plans to redevelop land around the bridge with a seated picnic area and a tree lined avenue giving views of the town.
