Man's ear cut off in fight
A man has had surgery to re-attach his ear after he was hit with a broken bottle while trying to stop a fight between two women.

The victim, from Uckfield, East Sussex, was on a night out in Brighton when he was caught up in the brawl in the early hours of Sunday.

Police think the women were fighting outside the Joint night club in West Street when the man stepped in to break it up.

At this point he was hit by another man with a broken bottle.

The top of his ear was cut off and the broken edge of the bottle lacerated his neck, severing major blood vessels.

His attacker ran off up Cranbourne Street and may well have cut his hands on the bottle, a Sussex Police spokesman said.

The victim had to undergo surgery on Monday morning at the Royal Surrey County Hospital to have his ear re-attached.

Any witnesses are urged to contact Sussex Police.
