A Japanese peace envoy, Yasushi Akashi, is due to arrive in Delhi later on Tuesday to brief Indian leaders about his latest attempts to restart the stalled peace process in Sri Lanka.
Speaking on Monday at the end of his visit to the island, Mr Akashi said the international community now has a sense of impatience with the peace process.
He warned that international attention was fickle and could easily shift its focus from Sri Lanka to other conflicts.
On Monday he met Tamil Tiger rebel leaders in the northern city of Kilinochchi.
The rebels pulled out of peace talks in April demanding a greater devolution of power to their northeastern stronghold, and more funding for local reconstruction projects.
