A 96-year-old woman and her daughter have been attacked during a robbery in County Down.

Two men followed the 65-year-old daughter from her driveway into her home on Banbridge Road in Gilford at about 1420 BST on Monday.

The men, who had a knife, attacked the woman's elderly mother who was in the house, slapping her in the face.

The daughter, who was also attacked, was taken to hospital with a leg injury.

The men ripped the telephone out of the wall before ransacking the house and escaping with money.

Police have appealed for information about a red car which was seen in the grounds of Tullylish Presbyterian Church shortly before the robbery.
