Man charged with kidnap after siege
Surgery siege
The area around the surgery was blocked off during the siege
A 43-year-old man has been charged with kidnap following a seven-hour siege at a doctor's surgery.

The charges follow an incident at the Weaver Medical Centre, in School Lane, Kettering, Northamptonshire, on Tuesday when a 53-year-old GP was taken hostage.

Northamptonshire Police said a man from the Kettering area, who was arrested following the stand-off, would be appearing before magistrates in Corby on Thursday.

He has also been charged with false imprisonment, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a Class B drug.

Trained police negotiators were brought in to bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion after members of staff at the surgery raised the alarm at about 1000 BST on Tuesday.

The GP was able to walk unharmed from the premises at about 1645 BST.
