Multi-lateralism

Failing to find common ground, the delegates to the World Trade Organisation talks in Cancun have packed up and headed home. The permanent members of the UN Security Council can't agree on what to do about Iraq, and the Swedes have given a resounding 'nej' to the idea of joining Euroland. Is the world giving up on the idea multi-lateralism? David Grossman investigated.

Ali Dizeai

Superintendent Ali Dizeai, a man once tipped to be Britain's first black chief constable, has walked free from court, after it was claimed he had been the subject of a "witch-hunt". Our reporter Barnie Choudhury had an exclusive interview with Mr Dizeai.

Hutton Inquiry

And Lord Hutton's Inquiry has resumed with James Dingemans QC, senior counsel to the inquiry, setting out some issues to be examined over the next two weeks, and giving details of the people who'll be appearing, some of them for the second time. The Defence Secretary, Geoff Hoon; Alastair Campbell; and the BBC's Andrew Gilligan and Chairman Gavyn Davies are all on the list. The BBC's Director General, Greg Dyke, was among the new witnesses giving evidence. Newsnight's team was at the Royal Courts of Justice to bring you the latest.

Newsnight can be seen on BBC Two at 2230 BST 2130 GMT, or in Real video, either live or on demand, by clicking on the latest programme button.
