Thousands of supporters of the main Bangladeshi opposition party, the Awami League, have marched through the capital, Dhaka, protesting against growing lawlessness and price increases in food and utilities.
The head of the organisation, Sheikh Hasina, blamed the coalition government for failing to maintain law and order.
She said killing, mugging and abduction have now become almost a daily occurrence.
She also said prices of basic foodstuffs and utilities had risen beyond the reach of ordinary people.
Last month, supporters of the Awami League called a general strike in protest at the murder of two Bangladeshi politicians.
