By-pass for notorious blackspot
A66 Temple Sowerby
The road is a notorious accident blackspot
A new by-pass road is to be built around the A66 at Temple Sowerby.

Many people living in the village, which is an accident blackspot, have campaigned for 30 years for a by-pass to be built.

At present, almost 13,000 vehicles pass through the village every day - 25% of them heavy goods vehicles.

A public inquiry was held earlier this year to hear arguments for and against the new road.

On Wednesday it was announced by the Secretary of State the £18.5m project would be given the go-ahead, with a few minor modifications to the plans.

The Highways Agency has been asked to develop plans for the whole of the A66 from Scotch Corner to Penrith.
