Castle cliff fall man dies
Edinburgh Castle
Mr Hoggon was scaling the rock face
A 20-year-old man has died after falling more than 200ft from the cliff at Edinburgh Castle.

Johnny Hoggon was scaling the rock face on the south side of the castle on Sunday morning when the accident happened.

Mr Hoggon, from Edinburgh, was taken to the city's Royal Infirmary but died later, police said.

A spokesman said: "The indications we have are that the victim climbed up Castle Rock near King's Stables Road and then fell off.

"We were notified by the ambulance service. There are no suspicious circumstances."

Emergency crews arrived at the scene at about 0400 BST on Sunday after receiving a call from a friend of Mr Hoggon, who has not been named.

Mr Hoggon, from Ravenswood Avenue in the city, had been scaling the rock face at Johnston Terrace.

Further details about the circumstances leading up to the death have not been released.
