Turbine venture puts wind up airport
Wind turbine
Airport developers are concerned about the wind turbines
Proposals for wind turbines in East Yorkshire could create air traffic problems, the company developing the new Finningley airport claims.

Five months ago, National Wind Power put in a bid to build 16 wind farms on Goole Fields, in the East Riding.

However, the decision on their application is now being delayed by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council after fears for air traffic safety were raised.

Peel Airports Limited, responsible for the newly proposed Finningley Airport to be built between Doncaster and the Isle of Axholme, in North Lincolnshire, have objected to the wind turbine plans.

The developers say they are concerned the turbines will interfere with the radar reception at Finningley, potentially compromising air traffic safety.

A paper submitted to the council for consideration on Thursday calls for National Wind Power to provide a full analytical report into the operation of the wind farm in Goole and seeks assurances the venture will not compromise the new airport's operation.
