Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident
Two people died and two others were seriously injured in a road accident in Aberdeenshire.

Police have launched an investigation into the two-car crash south of Turriff, which claimed the lives of the passengers in both vehicles.

Inspector Angus McGougan of Grampian Police said: "This a terrible tragedy for all of the families involved.

"At this stage we are trying to piece together what happened and we would appeal to the public for their help, particularly in relation to the vehicles' movements prior to the accident."

The accident took place shortly after 2000 BST on Friday on the A947 Turriff to Aberdeen road.

The victims were named as Fraser Low, 16, from Turriff, and 34-year-old Lynne Forsyth, of Macduff, Aberdeenshire.

The 35-year-old driver of one of the vehicles was airlifted to hospital by helicopter suffering multiple fractures and other injuries.

The 17-year-old driver of the other car was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Both were said to be in a serious but stable condition.
