Police attacked as rival gangs clash
Police have come under attack during street fighting between rival gangs in County Down.

Up to 40 people were involved in the fighting which broke out in Downpatrick at about 0130 BST on Saturday.

A teenager was stabbed in the chest during the incident.

Police officers came under attack with bottles and stones when they tried to separate the gangs.

Overnight, a 17-year-old was stabbed in the chest close to where the disturbances, believed to be sectarian, broke out.

He was taken to hospital where his condition is not thought to be serious.

Meanwhile, in Belfast, a police officer suffered a minor head wound in the east of the city when his patrol was attacked.

The incident happened in the nationalist Short Strand area shortly before 0200 BST on Saturday.
