Murder police appeal to cab driver
Eric Hingston
Eric Hingston: Confronted burglars
Police investigating the murder of an 85-year-old Devon pensioner are appealing for a taxi driver to come forward.

Eric Hingston was found dead by his wife in their flat at 0400 last Friday.

Mr and Mrs Hingston lived in a flat above the family butcher shop in Plymouth's Underwood Road.

Police believe a taxi driver was in the same road at the time the murder was committed.

Important information

Two men climbed through their bedroom window and, during an attempted robbery, one stabbed Mr Hingston.

His wife, who was sleeping in the living room, awoke and confronted the robbers but they escaped through the window.

Police now want to speak to the driver of a light-coloured taxi who dropped a fare in Underwood Road at about 0340 BST that morning.

They say he was in the road at the time of the murder and may have important information.

Police say only one of the two men involved stabbed Mr Hingston and they are appealing for the second man to come forward.
