Fires fear eases

Thirty-five members of the brigade attended the furze fire at Noirmont
Jersey's fire service has said it is amazed there have not been more furze fire incidents this year.

With the hot and dry conditions the island has experienced over the last couple of months, the brigade said it had expected to be inundated with fires on commons.

A fire at Noirmont last week was tackled by 35 members of the brigade, one of whom suffered burn injuries.

Fire crews believe scores of animals were killed and that it was probably started deliberately.

Despite this, the brigade said it wanted to thank people for taking more care with items that could normally cause a fire.

However, members of the public are being asked to take care while out with any items that could spark an incident, such as disposal barbecues and cigarettes ends.
