Driver's 116mph speed charge
A motorist has been clocked travelling at 116mph in a Black Country street which had a 40mph speed limit.

The unnamed driver was one of more than 60 motorists caught exceeding the speed limit in Thorns Road, Quarry Bank, near Dudley, within the last few weeks.

The driver will now be prosecuted for speeding and dangerous driving.

Sergeant Karl Androlia, from the road policing unit at Halesowen, said police mounted the crack-down in the area following complaints from residents.

'Fatal accidents'

"A total of 65 motorists were caught exceeding the speed limit - some of them were driving in excess of 100mph," he said.

"The highest recorded speed was 116mph and the drivers have received a notice of intended prosecution.

"Those travelling at the highest speeds have also been sent notices of prosecution for dangerous driving.

"We will vigorously enforce the speed limit with whatever means are at our disposal. Many of the fatal and serious road accidents in the West Midlands are caused by speeding drivers."
