Tesco jobs move to India
Tesco
Tesco is "growing significantly" according to a spokesperson
Supermarket chain Tesco is moving 200 jobs from its finance centre in Cardiff to a new IT base in India.

The company said it is confident it will be able to offer most of the staff alternative employment within the company.

But, a spokesman added, staff would have to be flexible about where they work.

Talks are currently taking place between the company and its employees.

It has emerged that the jobs were being moved because the company was "growing quite significantly".

"To support that growth we have to invest in our support functions too keep us competitive," a spokesman added.

On Thursday, the supermarket group unveiled plans for 3,500 new jobs within the company.

About 350 posts will be moved to the new business support centre in Bangalore in India.

At the same time, Tesco said it would create 1,400 jobs from its ongoing expansion of Tesco Express branded stores, with another 2,000 new positions set to be generated due to the recent strong trading.

The jobs will be moved in the next 12 months.
