Schools closed due to building work
Hundreds of pupils at a number of Essex schools have been told not to report back for the new academic year on Thursday.

Building work at schools across the county has been under way throughout the summer break.

But in some schools the work is ongoing so those will remain shut.

The following schools will be closed, an Essex County Council spokeswoman said:

  • Boreham Primary (opening on 8 September)
  • Bocking Church Street Primary (opening on 8 September)
  • Spinney Junior School, Harlow (opening on 8 September)
  • Witham Howbridge Infants and Junior (opening on 8 September)
  • Chipping Ongar Primary (opening on 8 September)
  • The Katherine Semar Infants School, Saffron Walden (opening on 11 September)
  • Cathedral Primary School, Chelmsford (opening on 8 September)
  • Eight Ash Green Primary and Aldham, Colchester (opening on 8 September)
  • Writtle Junior (opening on 10 September)
  • Writtle Infant (opening on 8 September)
  • Milton Primary School in Westcliff (opening on 8 September)
