Mud traps wanted man

A man wanted for questioning after a shoplifting incident was arrested after getting stuck in a muddy river bank as he tried to get away.

Police and fire crew had to be called to rescue the man who had run off from a supermarket in Newport.

It is thought he jumped into the nearby River Usk where he became stuck.

Onlookers watched as a fire crew had to rescue the man using an inflatable walkway to get him on to dry land.

Police who were also at the scene then arrested him.

He is being questioned.
