HIV advice failing ethnic minorities

Brighton's black community has doubled over last decade
Advice services on HIV and Aids are failing to get their point across to ethnic minorities in Brighton and Hove.

A report released on Friday has claimed health organisations in the region have failed to realise the kind of people who now use the service is changing.

Report author Ogo Chime said: "The problem is they are just not used to these people.

"They should start to look at services that will target their needs specifically."

The study showed 160 people from minority groups sought treatment last year.

With Brighton's black community almost doubling over the past 10 years, the city's health officials admit there are improvements to be made.

Brighton and Hove Primary Care Trust's Stephen Nicholson said: "We will be looking at the recommendations of the report to see how best we can serve the needs of those communities."
